On this trip I realized that the steering got a bit tough (?).
In my mind I saw rusty bearingrollers crushing against totally worn surfaces.
Again in comparision to my new steering bearing in my my TT it felt really bad!
So some days ago I took the frontend apart:

And here is the upper bearing:

smooth and nice....
Here is the lower bearing:

again: smooth and nice. No grooves as known from the lower ones.
But when I took a picture from below ... :

Here you can see clearly that there are marks left behind...
You don´t feel them... you just can see them because the surface is diffrent as the light comes in diffrent.
Funny. From the first foto of the lower bearing I would have said: Well, this bearing is ok for the next 50000 Km.
But the second lets me doubt this.
What ja think?

Your going to keep the bike, so change it Oliver (give it that brand new feeling). :evil:

Your already at this stage (apart) so its worth doing the job, remember if you sell the bike you can show the buyer these pictures & that helps with the sale knowing those small jobs (but important ones) have been done.

If you can't feel any roughness with your super sensitive probe, (finger tip), then re-grease the bearing and reassemble.

....Don't fix it, if it isn't broken.

I had EXACTLY the same problem with my Tiger before the Manx GP.... the bike didn't want to turn & the handlebars were sticking in the straight ahead position... so I dropped the forks & yoke out expecting to see rusty bearings, but they were fine... so as Dave said I cleaned up the bearings, regreased 'em & put it back together.... good as new now.. :rtfi:

Yes, thanks for comments.
I will give it a try.
Fresh grease and a good adjustment.
Maybe the bearing was just tightened to much.

I've seen a grease nipple tapped into the frame which makes for easy greasing! By the way Fred I spotted a tank hanging on the wall, how much 34L stuff do you have?

Hi Eric,
I still have three extra tanks. One is allready sold, but the buyer doesn´t show up....
Two good ones for me to keep.

Yesterday I put the steeringstem back in. With grease and a proper adjustment it feels good.
Now the forklegs get a service.
One seal is leaking.
The old oil is like thick honey. Darkgrey and metallflake.... :puke:
There were 100 ml missing in each leg.
I think I´m the first "nonasian" who did look into the legs

Yes, but as an professesional my nose blocks right away and breathing continous through the mouth.
If it stinks very bad you can taste the smell on the tounge.
All abroved through daily routine.... as a geriatic nurse

As some of you allready know I´m an airplane- mechanic and looking for a new job.
