Would have thought the center of gravity would get higher with the weight of the radiator, fan, expansion tank, frame fittings and water

Rick, you could have a Point there. Appreciate all input. smile:
My thoughts goes like the steel is a lot heavier. And being at the lower side of the bike my guess was it would enhance the gravity to the better.
Did not really Think of the higher located Watercooling system (external parts of it, water included, adds up about 2,5-3 k´s).

I would discourage this project...more trouble than it is worth.

The motor wont fit the earlier frame without much modification and the electrics are very different.

Chain alignment? Radiator? Big Battery?

I would tackle it another way and modify the 660 bike to be more like a TT600.

Strip back as much heavy and un-needed parts as possible, fit an acerbis tank, different side panels, lighter exhaust etc.
"Don't worry," he said, "things could be worse ........."
So I stopped worrying and lo and behold, things did get worse!

ActionMan, that´s the kind of trouble I like. I can see your point though going for the remake of a 660.
Maybe that comes in the future. Thanks for the feedback. smile:

Don´t really know how reliable the numbers are on this site, motorcyclespecs.co.za.
But according to this site the dry weight difference would be about 50 kg between the TT and the 660.
If they are incorrect and it only is 25 kg I would still go for the TT frame despite the more trouble.
The weight is of some importance to me. I can´t lift up the newer XT660Z myself which is a must.
I tried this winter when the snow made me crash. Weight training?

The ultimate adventure build would be a WR450F but I´m not there yet. The TT frame will be a good choice too.

I have not told any details in my plan for #2 and that´s because I don´t have it all in place yet.
But some bike will act as a donor, for it´s engine, rear wheelhub, swinger, battery, electrics, rear brakes,
airhousing, water cooling or not etc. And here I have at least one 660 to pick it from. The alternative is what I
had in mind from the beginning, the 3TB. I can sell one of the 660´s and buy a 3TB when one shows up at a reasonable price.

I guess I have to tear one 660 down start weighing things and measure what´s a fit or not.

The biggest saving was the shitty abs, know good when off road, the final drive was switched to the RT so I lost the rear hugger with the RT final drive give much better gear range, then I cut the rear frame, its not a lot of saving there.
I adapted a set of racks off a 1200 GSA to fit mine so I can fit those aluminium panniers, great for touring loads of room...

My problem is I love the red and white theme

That 660 fitement is a lot of work, the frame needs a lot of mods, been doing my own for a while and it keeps getting pushed back when I look at how much more is meeded yet. I wouldn't even concider the liquid cooling part of it , when I looked at placement of the radiators there just was no place to fit everything without remaking the entire front frame and head . All the hoses would end up exposed and ugly, so I went with the air cooled topend instead. You can get the same power with good internal components anyways , just needs an oil cooler now for summer, it does run warmer in 75-80F air temps though. Was thinking of making a big-fin head to keep things cooler.

Thanks for input about the 660 engine xtrider and actionman. :thumb:
Maybe too much work inserting that engine, with or without watercooling.
Biggest concern though is weight. I could as said easily tear one down and get an answer.
I have other things to do right now but I suspect it´s at least 5 kg more with a 660 then a 3TB engine.
Then the Watercooling doesn´t really fit into my plans with the YZ front. Only with the S10 front.
And it´s 7 kg difference between those 2 fronts. Guess which front I want.

I think I will put that 660 plans to the side for the moment and continue to look for a 3TB.

Thanks again.

WR speedo question

Post by Yami »

When I´m planning to have a front Wheel hub from a WR/YZ or similar Yamaha I also need to be able to attach a speedo with cable.
Does someone know about whats needed for this setup?
Is the hub same on all WR/YZ´s and is it all about the speedo part or is the hub different to be able to use the speedo?
Thanks.
