OK, Actionman and I hooked on the trailer and drove the 170km to Bendigo to collect the bike. :oilleak: :oilleak: Unfortunately the bike had as lot of issues: :omg:
All plastics badly broken with shoddy repairs and no pins on the side covers.Head light surround badly smashed (not useable)
Rear guard was metal(may be xt500) and damaged
Frame under the tank and seat had been got at with an angle grinder to remove the Tenere tank and seat mounts and some shoddy mounts had been welded on to attach the XT tank and seat. The xt seat was broken underneath
The xt tank was in very bad condition,
The air box had the top cut out of it.
All the switch gear was broken and not usable
Handle bars and levers and fulcrums corroded and or broken
Engine was a 49l. It did start and was not to noisy and I could select all gears'
Oil cooler missing
No rack
Front rim badly bent, rear had lots of stone damage.
No pillion pegs or mounting frames
No indicators
It had been out in the weather for a very long time.
Clocks were crazed (96,000km on the speedo) It had had a very hard life. :tough:
Etc Etc

In summary it could be restored but a great deal of work and the only parts that would be usable would be the frame(after rebuilding correct seat and tank mounts) and the front and rear suspension.
He realized that he was asking a bit much and offered it for $750. This bike was realy to much work for me at any price so we walked. :nannawave:
If anyone wants his contact details(I have name, phone and address, PM me and I can forward on.
It was a pleasent drive (a catch and release!)and we finished the evening at another forum members place and checked out his 34l resto as well as watching the footy and the superbikes and having a few ales and nibbles (thanks Paul)

Eric,
I don't think he was being deliberately misleading, just didnt realy know anything about bikes !!. he certainly should have put some decent photos on Ebay. Lets see if it reappears. If someone wants a 34l frame for a project it would be OK . I will PM you re the 49l seat and tank.
