Bought myself a 1981 YZ 250 at the weekend, just like the one I raced, but yellow. Needs a bit of work, not a runner yet, but plan to try and race it at the vintage MX meetings, until the wife finds out.

Its air cooled, thats the main thing.
My stroker of choice is the CR250 "red rocket"

My brother had one of them, but he had a few gearbox problems.The YZ that I had was the same as this only white, I ran it for two seasons with no problems, just chain and sprockets, cables and reed valve, and new rings!

Got to love a grunty old two stroke. Will look forward to following the rebuild (lots of photos hint hint).

Brilliant get out on it...please don't show me too many more pictures or it will get me thinking I need one....already have a fleet of 125s and a 465,just no 250 model....
It's hilarious riding them with modern bikes,you get some very odd looks when you have a good result against a load of monster energy laced teenagers on modern 250fs...

My mate in the UK had an IT490 (road legal) he could wheelie at 90mph+
He let me have a go & i shit myself with the power it had, the powerband came in up she went.
