Recommended motor oil seems to be SAE 20W40SE, can't find this oil in the 4-5 shops I've looked in. Quality marking "SE" is old, I'm not sure what kind of oil to use.

Oil filter should be replaced too, but I'm not sure where or what to look for, often the images are general, and not spesific to model in webshops.

I've seen a magnet thingy for mounting with oil filter, is this somehing to use, what diameter?

My air filter foam is damaged and old, I think its best to get i all new.. It's a square(ish) sylinder.. where to find a replacement?

Recommended Oil type remains I think. (Temperature range +20 to -10 Celsius where I live.)

Kedo would be your best bet on webshop, although Dave Lambeth sells filters for the 3AJ as well (i got mine from him) here.

I think the "magnet thingy" you mention is a magnetic sump plug.

It replaces your standard sump plug with 1 with a magnet in it

It holds metal particles & fillings in a place where they can't do any damage, until your next oil change, when you can clean them off.

Found (@ KEDO) air filter & oil filter ... and this oil:
51545 4l 20W50 4 Stroke Mineral Motorcycle Oil (API SL, JASO MA2) --> replaces item 50658

This is a thicker oil than the "40" .. and I saw no other oil when xt 600 was selected in "motorcycle type" ...

What do you use?

Which oil viscosity depends on the air temp. where you use it & how long & hard you ride.

In a fairly cool climate like Norway, 10W40 would be the way to go unless you ride at full throttle ALL day , in which case use 20W50 but let the engine get HOT before you thrash it.

Oils that start with "10" give better lubrication on start up (when most damage occurs) & gets to opperating temp. quicker than "20".

As your bike has an oil cooler without an oilstat (thermostat) as standard, the oil might take a while to warm up, but hopefully keep the oil from getting too hot.

I use cheap mineral 10W40 because my engine burns a lot of oil, when I get time & money to sort the engine I'll use 10W40 semi synthetic.

Is mineral oil 10w40 for cars ok? Kedo recommends (?) 20w50.. for motorcycles (xt 600).
What is best at 10 degrees Celsius: 20W50 that needs a warm up time made for MC? or cheap 10w40 for cars?

What I don't understand is the difference between oil for cars and MC ... say both should use 10W40.

The short version:
SF < SG < SH < SJ < SL < SM < SN (where S is for gasoline and C is for diesel, FGHJLMN are revisions)

Japanese MC's should use JASO T904-MA and MA2.. wet clutch needs special oil, not oil made for cars.

SJ, SL, SM and SN revisjon has demands to reduced use of phosphor and sink, which might be bad on older engines.

If you change from mineral to synthetic oil: synthetic oil could release deposits from mineral oil, so change oil and filter again after 200-500km.

I've not bought "motorcycle oil" for over 20 years, I always thought it was a way for the industrie to get more cash out of you.

I've done a few hundred thousand miles (60000miles/100,000kms on my Ten) using car oil & never had a clutch problem.

Love to know if anyone has had problems caused by car oil.

Always used it myself, and in cars (petrol ones) i always used deisel oil, my mate runs a garage in the UK & told me he's been putting it in customers cars for 30yrs.

There is, and their oil is probably ok. I've checked oil level, and its fine, but I have to change anyway. Ordered oil form KEDO, cheaper and more probably closer to Yamaha Spec. It made no difference in price, since there is a flat rate for shipping to Norway. My cart:
