"1993" xtz660 wiring harness needed, mystery...half solved lol

Post by Modus »

A while back I bought an unregistered '93' 4my.
The blue twin light model.
I saw it as a rolling frame, but was excited as it could be a long term project if I could find an engine and all the bits cheap.

It was loosely assembled and the deal was because it would be a headache doing the nova forms etc, anything I found which matched, came with it.....
Trawling through 4 rooms, I got the massive suprise of finding the matching serial numbers engine, and carbs! Winner.

The old fella had died and there were probably 50 bikes worth in his house(Including a vincent)....to put it in perspective there was a biscuit tin full of keys for all the projects and his kitchen was full of bike ramps and bits!

I found a box of bits which matched the tenere, and carried it around putting more in it.
Only a few odd bits couldnt be found, pegs, coolant tank, levers etc....all seemed great, but,

Its been standing waiting for my attention, and the engine has been giving me an itch to attempt to start it before putting it back in the frame...
Well, the odd few times I have had time to eye over the wiring harness I was pleased to find in the box...the wiring looked wrong...wrong colours, or 4 wires not 6, etc.
I searched xtz manuals, szr manuals....nothing seemed to match, just odd bits.

I put it off, and whilst working on 4 or 5 other bikes, have loosely assembled things and done the grunt of a USD fork swap.

Now, nearly 2 years on Decided to have have a closer look at each component number and I noticed the OEM number tag/tape still hidden under some insulation tape.

Damn it! so its for an SR500!
:headslap:

There was me excited, because everything still attached, lead, rectifier, ignition box, etc

Is there value to it, maybe I can just sell it and use the coin to buy a correct loom/parts?

and more importantly, the crux of the question, will the 3yf harness fit the 4my?

As you said you could sell it, parts and all and use the money to find a suitable loom, but I’d “guess”, a lot of it would work (lights etc) with a few modifications for the charging system. Maybe lengthening certain wires to reach the bars? Can you get hold of both wiring diagrams for comparison?
An auto electrician would have the cabling and joints to modify it. Probably easier finding a donor though.
