XT600 4PTA Jet settings

Post by Jex »

Hi
I have a 2000 4PTA model and today I removed the spark plug and also disassembled the carburetor a bit to see what size jets are in there.

Looking at the plug, it seems to me that the engine is running a little rich?

The top cover of the air filter housing has been completely removed and the muffler is an Arrow paris-dakar replica. The pipe is standard.
Airfilter is standard.

The main jet looks to be 145 and the pilot jet was 48
What kind of jet settings are typically used in a setup like this?

I haven't looked at the size of the second carburetor jet yet.

They’re pretty good sizes for use with an arrow. If the air supply is clear, try winding the pilot screw in first, and drop to a 46 pilot if you don’t have any joy. I take it this was just at idle? And also that you weren’t just running her up for a bit with the choke on over the winter months? Take her for a blast and recheck the plug. The roads are lovely. When it feels right, it’s right. Don’t forget float height is vital.
She should be able to crawl around below 2000rpm and still pick up again on throttle
