Faulty ground neutral switch?
I went over my wiring, and found out that between the sky blue wire running from the neutral switch, and ground there is 1.1ohms. This would indicate bad ground right?? Or is this a normal reading? The manual doesn' t say at all whay the reading should be, but as far as I know ground should always be about 0.1 ohms.. could this cause the no spark? Seems almost unlikely to me because it does crank over. And how would I fix this??

Re: Faulty ground neutral switch?
Dont know the 660's at all but re basic wiring circuit and i hope i remember it correctly. If you are measuring resistance first if you short your leads together you should get zero but it can sometimes show 0.1 ohms with tolerence. I would first check your resistance across the switch it self first with it disconnected - this should be close to zero in neutral and then out of neutral it should be open circuit. THe higher ohms alrhough slight may mean you are measuring the circuit towards the starter relay and neutral bulb so definately check this with the neutral switch disconnected - hope this helps Charlie

Re: Faulty ground neutral switch?
Alright, well I found out something is wrong. Its either the diode, neutral switch or side stand switch, because the bike has spark when the clutch is pulled in. Meaning one of those is cutting the power without it, tried starting the bike however with clutch in, but sadly no sign of it starting.. might be a bad battery im not sure. Will investigate further tommorow.

If it fired with clutch in, it’s prob the neutral switch, and they should be available through Yamaha. I have a later loom in my 1vj with a side stand switch. That’s just shorted out and taped up. Sounds like you’re close to riding her.

Re: Faulty ground neutral switch?
So I tried firing the bike, with clutch in and side stand in. Got nothing, I have spark, I have compression and im pretty sure I also have fuel. Whenever I start it I smell a strong fuel scent, so idk if that could mean anything. I recently also cleaned the carbs and inspected them. Weird weird weird, it used to start hard and it still seems to have that issue. Not close to riding after all

How is the bike’s timing? Valve clearances? Compression? Glad to hear you got spark though; one step at a time!

Re: Faulty ground neutral switch?
I would advise to assist the battery via jumper cables, and in the long run get a Lithium based battery replacement.
The battery condition is absolutely critical with the XTZ model. A good battery will crank the engine faster, and enable it to start much more easily.

Re: Faulty ground neutral switch?
Hi! Valve clearances where all within spec, compression enough because ive had it run and it did that good no power loss or whatnot (was a pain in the ass to start however) the timing I have not looked into, do you mean the spark timing? I find it so weird how it started so difficult but would run like nothing happend.. and now doesnt want to start at all.scottieh wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 4:09 am How is the bike’s timing? I did try hooking my XTZ up to my Deauville 650, that one has a okay battery. Didnt do much for me tho..motorang wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 6:57 am I would advise to assist the battery via jumper cables, and in the long run get a Lithium based battery replacement.
