What am i missing ?

Post by Missinglink »

Bought a new Twinair air filter and went to fit it tonight. The filter in it was about an inch thick with two plastic grids bonded on both sides to keep it rigid and in shape.

The twin air is just a multi layered foam filter but no frame so to speak to help it hold its shape ???

I'm guessing these came with some sort of holding frame to sandwich the filter and then slide in. Anybody know ???

1999 T600R......

Cheers

Can’t speak for the TT, but on the 1vj the foam is replaceable and separate. There is the frame underneath. Check it out on cmsnl or fowlersparts to see if you have, or need to order another piece. Is the frame definitely bonded or just tight fitted to the foam?
The pic attached is from a 1998 tt600 for example. The foam is sandwiched between the two frames. The frames should transfer to the new foam.

Yeah checked that site and not 100% clear, The supplier says it should be like for like and a straight swap but there is no way this new filter will stay in position with out some kind of support.

I know it doesnt help you and not sure where you are but if youre looking for the best filter available for the TT600R it is made by unifilter in Australia. Available through unifilter or through Yamaha oz. Yamaha supply these as factory replacement part in oz part number 5CH-E4450-UF. They fit very firmly into the airbox, better than the original, and also have a prefilter layer that is easily removed and cleaned which keeps the main foam layer cleaner for longer.

Cheers Fella, I'm in the UK but will send i back and look for yours.

The idea is to use this bike in sand so looks a good option...
