Side stand

My stand snapped lastnight (luckily it wasn't 10mins earlier, I'd just delivered a £110 curry order)

I've welded it up but it seems to stick out further than before.

Can someone post a pic of there stand from the rear & in the up position, so I can see how much it sticks out relative to the pillion footpeg

Decided to make a longer side stand, the bike leaned over alot further when I fitted a stronger rear spring, which might have put more stress on the original stand, so I wanted to reduce the lean angle when it was on the stand. (something to bare in mind if anyone else changes their spring).

Got given some 1' square section tube from a mate, made a "foot" from some 6mm plate I had kicking around & cleaned up the original U piece (where it clamps to the frame).

Then practiced welding on some scrap 'til the weld looked perfect & totally forgot all I'd learned when I started to weld on the stand (Aren't angle grinders a wonderful thing )

On the down side, it weighs about 40% more than the original (thicker wall tubing)

On the up side, it works & I've lowered my center of gravity




(& the frame & swingarm will get shotblast & coated this winter, you're meant to be looking at the sidestand )

Are the sidestands on the weak ?? Ive had the pleasure of mine snapping already... thought that joy finished after getting rid of KTMs

34L`s were made with girders, and but still bent.

Mine snapped when I slipped getting off my bike & I dragged the bike down .

Then again after I'd fitted a longer rear shock spring which meant the bike leaned over more, which put more strain on the stand.

If your bike has the standard rear spring Phil, you could just weld a steel strip on your stand that goes across the top weld to give more strength.
