Hi again all.
So I have got around to renovating my wheels. Going to try and renovate the rims but will splash out on a spoke set.
What is the best way to revive the rims? They are not too bad actually a bit of corrosion and a few scratches. I have the spokes out.
What is the best paint for the hub? I assume it will be some kind of satin black.

Also, can I ask? Are the rims chromed or just steel? They don't look chromed.

Not sure what 3AJ rims are made of, but have a look at cerakote. Was thinking of changing my t700 rims to gold to match my 1VJ, and looked at central wheel. Fairly cheap. £34 per rim. Good finish. Many colours.
You may also be able to anodise them at a local company?

Should be alluminium, check with a magnet.

I had mine powder coated satn black with the hubs and stainless spokes but you could get them anodised.

Never thought of that!!! Duhhhhh!! They are defo not aly but dont look chromed either.
I want to keep the whole bike as original as possible, so dont want to change the rim colour and they dont have to be perfect.

OK so I have had a go on a small area but the little dark marks just wont budge. (see pic)
The rims dont attract a magnet but they do not look or feel like aluminium???? I have learned that austenitic stainless steel does not attract a magnet, could they be made of this? How could i find out?
As I understand it you cannot anodise steel so my alternative would be chrome but I think it would be too shiny.
On the pics of the original that I am using as a guide for my resto (other pic) they don't look chromed, just polished.
Maybe new rims? Where?

If you want to try to just clean them up ( I didn’t get my gold ones done as I also wanted them original) try this on a small patch (maybe inside the tube area). This is for cleaning chrome. Does wonders on forks.
Get a bucket of water and some tin foil. Scrunch some foil in your hand, dip it in water, then rub the affected area. Keep the foil wet and keep going.
You can clean as normal then and neutralise the corrosion with some off the shelf treatment.
Try it on another piece first ( say an old barbell)
If you can’t repair it, at least you still have some good options.
