I don't think this is an excessive ask, given what 3AJ bikes in considerably worse shape go for.

Was the enthusiast K G Butler by any chance?
Has it still got the tank/crash bars?

I don't know who it was, but I do know that I found the bike on a forum (in better days) with a high mudguard and without the front wheel/brake dressings.
Yes, I have the rear, front upper and lower bars - all by Riky Cross I believe and very rare.
I've got someone asking me to sell the rear bars on their own, but I'm thinking the set together is rare and valuable and would be a shame to split.
I'm also very tempted to take them off the bike and sell them seprarately anyway because my asking price, which again, doesn't seem to me vastly unreasonable, hasn't as yet attracted a buyer.

I've seen buckets of bits XT600's go for £1500-£2k and more!

If you go that way, I could be interested in the Riky Cross gear,all of it. pretty sure it is the same bike that KGB was trying to get rid of (especially if it had the 1VJ type front mudguard) .

To be clear, the bike is now as it was when I picked it up a year ago. I don't know when the front end was put back to a more factory look.
