34L Resto advice

Hey Guys, just bought a 83 Tenere and want to do a pretty decent restoration, basically I need to know which after market brands to stay away from eg bearings ,seals gaskets etc. Also I want to replace the front guard,rear guard and side panels, I've checked out Dan from Hobarts resto and he picked up a front and rear guard are these still available, are the side covers the same on a standard XT600? I previously owned a 83 Tenere for about 15yrs and had the best time travelling all over Eastern Aust, sold it around 2003 and have felt guilty ever since (like selling one of my children) now it is time to adopt a new one. I will put up photo's on the resto thread once the Missus shows me how.

I'm at the same stage as you.. '83 Tenere requiring a full resto. Not aiming at a Dan quality job, but a sound example. Side covers from a std. XT won't fit. Tenere are dead straight whereas the XT have a bend. Don't know whether new side covers are available, but if you find some, I may be interested in your old ones! There's pics of mine in the introduction forum. You will see I have much to do.

I've just started stripping the motor to see the internal damage. The piston pin was pretty slack in the small end, so it looks like a new conrod and I fear things will get worse the deeper I delve.

I'm in Melbourne.

Got all plastics new(NOS) from germany.
You know both side covers,front and rear guard are 350 euros......

Thanks 55W1985 , I have found a new front guard here in Aust but have emailed Rudi on the side covers and rear guard . I think I might be contacting him quite a bit over the resto!

As you can see there is some work to do! The good points are the tank is excellent and the seat has been re upolstered,(but I will change it to correct colours) the front end is not original but I have a sourced replacements. I will start a new thread in the Resto section soon, should be fun!

Well you have options when you upload them to Photobucket what size they should be, i normally go 1200 x 800 which is big enough for most screens, you also have the option then do attach the pics in what size you like (going down in size) and for this & most people go with 800x600 which is ample for people to see clearly.

Your pics are 180×135 which is very small, you can try uploading at a bigger resolution & then edit you post with the bigger size.
Ive just moved the 34L's to Danny's place today & im absolutely shagged out now.
