Hi all, can somebody put me in the right place to buy a solenoid for my 1993 xtz 660 3yf here in the UK,so many different prices,but somebody must sell them and without rip-off post prices, thanks.

Wemoto. About £25.
Electrex just under £18.
Keep electrex in your contacts for any oem electrical replacements. Stator, coil. All good stuff.

Ok, thanks,any idea what the issue might be when l touch the celenoid terminals with a thick wire and all l get is a bright red wire? Hopefully starter motor as I've got a new one to try.

Which connectors? If it’s output, sounds like you’re shorting the full whack of the battery instead of powering the starter motor. It needs that load. Otherwise the cable is the load, like a 2 bar heater. Too much current for that.
If you want to test it, disconnect the battery and use a meter across it ( continuity ) to see if it opens with the button pressed.
On the 1vj, I’m sure it’s positive to starter button, then stater relay, which only operates if the safety circuit ( clutch, neutral and stand) is earthed (earths finally through the neural switch.
( if you have a loom from a bike with a side stand switch, and aren’t using it, make sure it’s bridged) hope this helps a bit.

Oh yes, Don’t bin your starter motor. They rarely are totally screwed and you can get new brush kits for them. Always handy to have a spare, even to help a mate.
