Carb tutorial 1993 Tenere 3 AJ

Post by Buchtucker »

Hello everybody

I recently bought an old tenere, and am in the process of giving the bike some much needed TLC

I need to clean the carbs since it 'when warm' doesn't like to idle?

I have spend some time on the internet looking for a 'how to' about this, but without succes.

In this forum I read about a carb tutorial translated to english from Brasil?

Can anyone help with this.

Much appreciated

Kind regards
Lars

I just mailed you a copy (email) however the last two people i sent it to said they had problems opening it, not sure why?

Andy (motorang) was talking about translating it to German, not sure if he has done this or not?

EDIT: No such thing as a 1993 3AJ, stopped production in 1990.

You asked me about the jet fig 42 in your email, it's been ages since i stripped a carb but i would say it screws right the way in.

Anyone else can chime in.

All the screws on these carbs are right hand threaded, or normal threaded, if that’s what you mean? I just dismantled two of these last week and found no backwards threadings.

Hey Scottie, he asked me in an email

"one question about the pilot jet, or pilot screw? fig.42

Does it screw all the way in after cleaning, or should it be screwed in, and then a few turns out?

In the service manual it says pilot screw 1 and 5/8 turns out, but I do remember I also read somewhere there is a screw/jet that should be screwed in and then back out 2 or 3 turns factory standard??"

42 is the fuel screw since it has the o-ring and retention spring. It is turned out 1.5-3.5 turns from bottom. 39 is the pilot screw and it goes in all the way. 39 is what the picture is pointing at.

2.5 turns out is what I usually start mine with and then go from there. Currently sitting at 2400 meters elevation. Good luck! :tenere:

Thanks everybody for your answers!
Yes I backed it out 3 turns for now, and then we see how it goes.

For Mezo

On the frame it says 1993?
