Carburettor removal

Post by Pensioner »

Hello just got a 2000 xt 600e the float sticks there is not a lot of room to work between the cylinder and airbox, what is the best way to remove the carburettor for a clean and a refurb ?

It just takes time - tank of, tank a load of pictures of the hoses and cable runs....remove carb to engine boots - check condition of these -- remove air box rubbers ...and so on

Hi......Loosen airbox/ carb runner clamps and slide all the way back. Take out top airbox mount bolts and slide airbox back as far as possible. Loosen and totally remove clamps on carb/ head intake runners. Removing these clamps totally allows the runners to flex just a little more to allow easier carb removal. Disconnect fuel hoses/ throttle cables etc. Keeping the airbox rearward as possible manipulate carb out from LHS of the bike. Be patient and may need to spray some WD40 etc on rubbers to help slide it out.

Once I can get the carb out of the way a bit I try to get to the intake flange bolts and unfasten them, then remove carb and flanges.

Depends. Those wet clutches have some drag so hard to find neutral when not riding (sitting at a traffic light etc). No problem with engine off, or rolling along.

For the dragging? No.
But if you use the wrong oil (hitech stuff for cars) the clutch will drag AND slip under load.
Just stick to the Yamaha spec
