Wanted 43f with electric boot and big tank- i.e. a 1VJ

Post by BMurr »

Had many a happy mile with my wife on a 43F in the late eighties. Would love to have one again but not sure how I'd hack the kickstarting ad I remember the fuel range being a pain. I guess what I really need is a 1VJ , anyone out there have one that hasn't been worn to the bone that they would like to see go to a good home? I don't mind if the cosmetics are a bit neglected so long as it doesn't reflect worn internals from being ridden mercilessly down every boggy dirt track that could be found to test it :bigeek: A 34L or 55w with a retrofitted electric stater engine might do too.

Anyway, get in touch on billroger67 at the the gee mail dot com

Cheers

SO you don't want 43F then! How tall is your wife? I would go for the XT600E it easier to source and good supply of the 23 Litre acerbis tank. I had one for years nice to tour on and reliable. I have the American version of the 43F available soon but a bit of a trek from Ireland and KICKSTART ONLY. good luck on your search. Charlie

Cheers Charlie. Just spotted my profile saying I am looking for a 43f, it wa true but I think I'm getting realistsic now re the practicalities. I'm in no rush but yeah I dont think my back could hack the outcome of a good kicking session should it be on a bad day. I remember kicking my 43f into life no problem but occasionally there would be something wrong and boy did I need my 23 year old legs to get it to fire up. My legs are almost 30 years older now and so is my back :bigyikes: . The tank was so short on range that as soon as I'd filled it I'd be almost on the search for the next station to fill up so a 1VJ seems like the perfect sentimental marriage of familar looks and a little bit of comfort.

Seat height of my 1VJ is huge compared to the 43F...I dont remember the xt600e being that height either .

You want one like this , 3tb motor , best of both worlds without the sore leg . Unfortunately it's in the US .

Cheers guys. I think I'll hold out for the big tank and electric boot. The decals are different from what I'd imagined but that's a 43F isn't it charlie? Looks good and if the 1VJ bug dies off I'd be asking you about price. The 34Land 55w are two great looking bikes but I do think the lack of a starter will eventually mean they become ornaments as I get older and I really would like to continue using them for a long time into the future. I do have plans to take my old gs down through Africa in a few years time, a trusty XT could replace it in that plan as they are a lot easier to crate up small. I know a troublesome starting session is a sweaty nightmare for me in tbe high heat which is resolved by a push, but that little button on the handlebars might as well say "Beam Me Up Scottie" in those situations such is it revered value to me.

I think the bike is an EW - it is an early american important and is the same as what's on the Clymer Manuals Sadily in the years I have had it I have only done a few hundred miles on it!

Just saw a pic of your 1VJ on another thread Charlie 1VJ, is there a build thread for it somewhere? I like what you did with the pannier frame, looks like a touratech frame but customised side panel.
