Highest mileage

Im hopefully getting my hands on a yamaha xt600 3aj and was wondering what kind of mileage these bikes are good for before serious engine repairs.
I can imagine theres a few on here that have been round the clock

Hi Jaz, my old girl has 80 600 km on the clock and she still going strong, no knocks, rattles or unusual noises, and she still pulls harder than a teenager!!

Have you done any work to the engine? ive been looking at a few with 30000 miles so 48000km and was slightly put off but im not classing that as massively high mileage now

Hi Jaz, i've just had 3 of my 3AJ's rebuilt. All had around the 50,000km and all had different issues, one had main bearing collapse, number two had 5th and 4th gear collapse and general wear and number three had piston slap and general wear.
My thoughts are that it all goes back to who owned it before hand and how they treated and serviced the bike. What style of riding they did, dirt/sealed?
In Australia these bikes were used for the long touring so sitting on 5th all day carrying all your gear has got to do something. Also travelling through towns at 60km in 5th does not do the gearbox any good either. (chattering)
