Well it was my birthday yesterday and the Mrs only bought me 2 blocks of chocolate, so I thought it was appropriate that I got something more useful Saw this on Ebay for a buy it now of $1200 and it was only 45 mins away so I went for a gander


It's a 97 TT600 Belgarda 15 000k's on the clock but has a broken motor and I mean broken

See the split in the case, I think that some one has had the kick back from hell and the idler gear has ridden over the starter gear splitting the case Will find out the full extent of the damage tomorrow when I split the motor. I'd say the owner has tried to see if he could bodge it up as the split has some sort of resin over it and they have partially started to strip the motor as the lock washers are missing off the crank and balancer.

The motor has a 2kf head and 3aj barrel but is kick start only but has the mounts for a starter, the cases are stamped 4gv.She has paoli forks and I think rear shock and brembo brakes front and back, a massive alloy swing arm and a full stainless exhaust.



The wheels have stainless spokes and a cush drive rear hub Now you might be wondering why I bought this bike I might have a crack at building a modern looking 34L using all the suspension etc and putting it all into a 34L frame, basically the Tenere Yamaha should be making today

Looks like the balancer might of let go & hit the cases from the inside??

I'll find out tomorrow Geoff, but the damage seems too far away from the balancer.

Got the motor out and on my last clean bench Well it has a lot of surprises inside including a light weight 98mm piston (wiseco),double valve springs and flash retainers



This is my most useful tool,slip on the 6mm allen 1/2" socket and you can remove all but the most stubborn bolts,if the allen head is stripped I put on one of those star shaped bits and hammer it in then on with the impact driver and out she comes

As I knew the case is fugged, who know's what went wrong.

Struck another shit fight when I tried to remove the front end,the stem is steel and has the conventional lock nut at the top but also has a alloy threaded sleeve that is used to hold the top triple clamp. The bastard was that tight I had to use a pipe wrench on it and it took an hour of swearing and sweating to get off, some how the alloy sleeve has stripped the metal stem

Slipped a few parts together


The lower triple clamp has a stuffed thread, it took 1 1/2hrs to wind off a alloy sleeve nut that some how stripped the metal stem

I will now search the web for a replacement or machine a new one. Oh I got my stickers from Julius today

Hoping to put the suspension,wheels etc into a 34L frame,what ever needs cutting or welded will be done. Keen on using the motor out of the Belgarda if I can get some replacement cases, tossing up whether to add a electric starter or run the light weight fly wheel with the battery less system. No rush, it will be a long build
