8 is the adjuster pin which moves up or down on the damping adjuster,which operates on the needle that goes up through centre of shock.
If you can find a way of holding the shaft without injuring it the whole affair unscrews from end of shock shaft.
BE VERY CAREFUL THE ADJUSTING NEEDLE DOESN'T LAUNCH ITSELF AT YOU if you take end off the shock.
When I've done yz ones I've always stripped shock completly and taken end off with no gas pressure in shock,but they are serviceable where as far as I'm aware the xt one isn't..unless you make a provision to regas afterwards.

Do you know where you can buy the bump stop?

I looked on cmsnl but they are out of stock.

It's not listed as an individual part for my 660 but the 600 looks the same.

Any bike shop can get them if you give them the length and shaft diameter.

All the bump stops I've seen have been made out of hard rubber or polyurethane, don't know if it's just the 660s but Yamaha intended it to squash.
If I used a hard rubber bump stop the same length as the original I'd only get 140mm wheel travel, not the 200mm Yamaha quote.

I've used Kayaba bumpstops on a few things,can be trimmed down if needed.
Off road only in Wales usualy keep a selection,or possibly k tec.

How do I attach the seat, there is something wrong with the mounting brackets or do I have the wrong seat?

Is that helmet lock on the exhaust side? RH side?

I thought helmet locks were own left?...maybe its a version for the uk market in march...it heats up your helmet so your brain doesn't get frozen....I've been back here less than a week and I want to go again..

There are two helmet locks on the 1VJ.

The left one has a key, the right has a push button. The tabs on the seat bracket are supposed to be secured by the helmet locks. It is possible to fit the seat bracket the right way and the wrong way!!
