The oil in frame doesn't help, the heat melts the grease in the steering bearings.

Graphite grease helps them last longer & make sure your new lower bearing has the rubber seal fitted.

Will you need to replace the carb body ? If so I have a carb that's been ultrasonic cleaned that I've been using for spares so if you only need the body it's yours for postage . Glenn

If off down Halgeir's place on Saturday to relieve him of his goods and chattels so if he comes up short I will be in touch.

I think a high temp wheel bearing grease will work in there and take the heat, I use it in my XL600 and it seems to stay without dripping.
That water pump that was creamed looks like some pumps I have seen around here when someone uses pure water or a very diluted antifreeze then it freezes, start the motor and all sorts of fun follows. In a bike I would imagine it just folded the fins over and ground them up with the ice chunks. That my guess
Hang in there with the parts, once your riding the cost won't matter , or as much.

Bottom bearing race gives it up to the mighty mig.


New gaitors, new inlet rubbers, new head races, new f sprocket lock washer...............another £100 bites the dust.
