To wet for work so I attacked the tank, remember these big dents.

Well my brother was a panel beater once and he said I should try pulling them out with a stick of solder Anyway you heat up the area ,flux it then melt the end of the stick to the dent.

Once cooled (60 sec) I vice gripped my slide puller to the stick and give it a couple of gentle tugs.

Heat up to remove stick and repeat until the dent is out. I probably did this 10 times in total to pull out both dents.

Now just a thin coat of filler .

Im amazed you did that work whilst it was on the bike.

Why not lead it now Eric? bog only cracks or falls out over time.

Mezo I did it on the bike as it was the easiest way to hold the tank solid while I pulled Also took my seat cover in to a motor trimmer today to ask their advice if it would fit, both just completely wrong pattern. Just finished an email to Mr Lambeth explaining what I thought of his excellent fitting covers .

Wouldn't have thought of using solder, & it'll be a lot easier to clean off than weld when finished.

Mr Lambeth emailed back with instructions on how to fit the cover and some pic's of one he had just done, first warm the cover, start at the front then the back , then stretch the sides down. I will give it a go but first I will take some measurements (and photo's of the uncovered seat on the bike) as I think with the cover being so tight that it actually pulls the front of the seat away from the tank.

Well that was the problem Dan had (Just Dan) on his 34L, it pulled away from the tank leaving an ugly gap, i had read Dave (Mr Lambeth) writing on the HUBB that he was getting replacement foam for these seats as he reckoned its was the the foam that had lost its strength & that was the main cause of this problem.

All of my 34L`s seats do this 'before' i have replaced the cover, i originally thought it may be the plastic seat base flexing as the decades have gone by?

My upholsterer said the same thing about foam degradation last time he did my seat, when it pulled away from the tank.

He tried replacing some of the foam with new, but no luck & he didn't have enough to replace it all.

I think of it as a cool air intake for the air box (a performance mod) so I don't feel so bad

Hi Oldgadgie, I used a propane torch, the small one's from the hardware shop. You only need to heat it a small amount, do not dis-colour the metal. Hey Mezo the plastic seat base will bend back only if the cover is too short, the foam can't make the base bend. Any way I bought a staple gun and will see how I go.
