I've been awol for three months care of an extended vacation with the NHS.
In the mean time I got hold of another silencer. I should pay more attention to the forum as it would probably save me a fortune

Hi Guys,

Little bit of an update, sorry for absence but long illness has hampered me somewhat.

Rebuilt the clutch with the bits that came with bike, replaced the knackered side casing and the shot water pump.
New battery.
Stuck in a bit of oil and ran it up.
Sorted dodgy side stand switch.
Bike now selects gears....

Carb out, cleaned and refit....bike now ticks over.....

Removed completely shot silencer and replaced with second hand unit, but fitted new exhaust seal.......bike does not now sound like a goose farting in the wind.

Next to sort is leaking fuel tap...seal kit ordered.

Rear suspension bottom linkage has more slack than a slappers chuff so will need sorting.

Struggling to source a rear rim that isn't rotten.....any ideas?

More to do but ever closer to a runner.

Plan is to get it through a MOT then see what i've got. Pretty sure the suspension wants a complete overhaul but until i've given it a run and seen what the engine and gearbox have in store i'm hanging back.

Speak to Cabbage about slack in swingarm linkage.. it seems they are all like it, as long as yours isnt really bad

Even after replacing the linkage bushes in my 43F it still had around 10mm up down 'play' on the wheel. Seems to be a xt/ten thing. It is the lateral play you have to worry about!

My hat is off to you, I would have broken that 3YF for spares!

Yep, i was concerned about the play in mine, so fitted a replacement set and it was just the same

Oddly the manual gives a sideplay limit but not a vertical play limit ???

Work for today.

Fit new fuel tap seal kit.....done

Remove rear wheel and remove tyre from rim. (hit self in face with tyre lever when it slipped...optional) ........done.
Swear a great deal..........done

take pics of ruined rim and post as above....done.

Found the cush drive rubbers are well beyond their best, so they will be needing replacement.
Rear brake piston seem ok, but the carrier slidier was really gummed up (not the one on the caliper), Ive cleaned it up and copper slipped it and seems ok....shouldn't it have a rubber boot?

The swingarm has no discernable side play but has about 6mm of up and down slack?

The chain adjusters have different back plates which is a bit peculiar.

Onwards and upwards.

I am realy struggling with tracking down a rear rim and i think that's going to be the main stumbling block to getting her back on the road.
It's going to be hard to justify buying a new rim and rebuild given the value of the bike.
