Is it a modification tax?
Basically, nearly all modifications require an engineer report. Then suspension and brakes modifications are considered "alterations of big importance" and therefore require a project, report and testing from an authorized engineering workshop. Workbench testing and so on.

We have to thank for that the stupid teenagers that changed the exhausts on their 2strokes for "as noisy as possible" during many years and the car tunning boom after the "Fast & Furious" movies. I said 3000 but it could be less (not much less). 3K is what the guys that did the bike from the link told me the fork+brake and rear shocks swap would cost me in bureaucracy to scramblerize my CB500 (Honda Vigor fork fits right in).

If you just did it, are the cops there smart enough to spot the changes? or is it an insurance issue?

I dont want to try. Fines are not cheap here. And then, if I have an accident, no matter if its my fault or not... I could spend my whole life paying a multimillion compensation just because the bike I had insured had been ilegally modified and therefore was not what I had insured.


Noob riders (<2 years) can only ride bikes with less than 45hp here. After the last Valencia motoGP the cops had a "checkpoint" in the motorway near Barcelona. They stopped all bikes (hundreds) and the noobs had their bikes dynoed right there.

Yes, the german police did the same. We wanted to get to the GP to Assen.
They stopped every bike and checked them. Illegal mufflers were confiscated and the guys could see how they get to the GP.
I didn´t reach the checkpoint as my Suzuki GT 380 died before that. Rain killed the inginition...
Funny about that: I expected to get home via the ADAC (trailer) and drunk all the beer I had with me.
The ADAC-man arrieved and said: Oh! A GT 380! I know these bikes well. He fixed the bike and I had to drive home totally drunken !!!
On the "difficult" :star: way home the gearbox got stuck in 4th gear...
I was feed up with old bikes and bought a CBR 600.
What a diffrence!

Whatever happened to the DR's Mezo? I have seen the end results of 3AJ :drool:
I didn't realise Vander,always someone who spoils it for the rest of us.
As Mezo said Australia has its fair share of poorly modified vehicles.
No worries about the hijack Fred sounds like a interesting trip :lol:

Well just a few days after them pictures were taken i had two heart attacks, i sold off all the DR stuff to the guys on the DR thread on ADV, everyone snapped up the parts i had collected & bits of my project are on various bikes around Australia.

I kept the Tenere & rebuilt it whilst recovering from the attacks, i was hoping i would get well enough to work again (electrician) but its left me unable to, so im piss pot poor now without the means to work & earn money, that`s why i live in a caravan in a field.

Bit of update folks I'm still progressing slowly with the conversion,
Found that the Tenere steering stem is welded into the cast steel
lower tripple clamp.
So now the search is currently on for a 2002 XT600e steering stem as
it is in pressed into a alloy lower tripple. Once found im good to
go :riding:
