CDI or what else
The problem i've been having is in top gear engine starts misfiring /hesitating at 3800 to 4000 rpm, in the lower gears it can rev past that but still sort off half hesitating but up to 5thou no problem. Speaking to various it was always either coil/carb /cdi or other, as there was always something else to sort and i did not want to race the old girl to much we sort of lived withit. With other things now sorted, i now need miss daisy to start hauling . Weve strippped the carb and all looks ok, but not crystal. Speaking to anther owner , he confirms same symtems and fixed by replacing the cdi with new, various others on our local "wilddogs" forum each have there own. Having tried a 2nd hand one from a mate here, changed cdi's wire for wire, bike dead-no start. Change back it starts 2nd kick. Racing 3 (you know what i mean)of them side by side up to 100ks hour they sort of stay together then mine drop down, other 2 going to 130/140

Re: CDI or what else
It's easier/quicker to test what you have with a multimeter

You never know how reliable 2nd hand stuff is & even new can be faulty
The multimeter tests for the CDI should in the manual.
If you haven't got a meter, they don't have to be expensive, the 1 in the pic is £30 (about 370Rand I think
) & has an inductive tacho (rev counter) so you can set your carb mixture screw as well, but you can pick up multimeters for less than £10.

Re: CDI or what else
I would advise against the cheap millimeters especially when measuring resistance as they often give false results.
The thirty quid ones should do the job but id avoid then ten quid (or lower) jobbies on ebay.

Hi Joe,
Sounds like you are running lean at higher speeds. A plug cut at time of symptom should confirm if i'm right. Borrow a fuel tank as a test, assuming your fuel pipes/filter are good.
Where are you located? PM me, maybe i can help

Re: CDI or what else
Other thoughts, why can it rev all out in lower gears but fail in top gear.

That sounds more like carb or gearing issues?xtjoe wrote:Other thoughts, why can it rev all out in lower gears but fail in top gear.![]()
What gearing are you running?

Hey Nordie
To my knowledge its all standard, i think 15/42 sprockets. 50/50 split here for CDI or carb, i'm waiting for our local autolec to open shop(moved property). Some chums are saying that autolec cannot repair timing advance in cdi and there is where the problems at. I'm no boffin here but fuck, how does it rev in lower gears and the dont have same power in top, maybe my arse's getting to fat or its my age/speed govener
