Not sure about that one, I would guess its the same as the 34L... all the calipers from 55W to 3AJ are the same...

We do have all the part fiches to all the bikes on the forum Andy, just a matter of going through comparing part numbers to see.

Took a couple of shots of the pads your looking for, along with the retaining pin & more importantly the funny shaped washer, have you got that amongst your bits?

Andy, those pads look pretty much like the ones I have on my 3aj as does the spring that you are holding in your hand.
Your pads should have a place for the hanger pin to go through, infact the pads I used to get for my 55w had the face of the pads in two halfs (a kerf down from the hole that hangs the pads).
Whats the reference number on those pads you have there?
Behind most pads and I can see from the clymer manual here that your bike should have a pad shim to the rear of the brake pad piston side and one (1) spring as you have fitted already. Those springs are to hold the brake pad in place, so the pads you should have to have will fit (almost like clip in) into position in conjunction with those springs. The one behind the pad I believe is for heat dispersion and anti chatter.
I will attempt to attach a schematic of the clymer diagram. OR
PM you with said scematic if you wish.

I've got a Clymer manual, but it's for the 43F and the TT600 isn't it? Thats the diagram that made me think I should have a third spring in place. Does the 43F share the same caliper as the 34L or the 55W?

Yea Andy clymer dont forget is the American manual so may not include any subtle differences of 55w and 43f ( I wouldent know)my clymer manual is a 1999 print if that makes any difference. And Geoff is right it covers 1984 to 89 0n the xt. Anyway I think you are looking at the anti chatter plate (have you got that) item 15 in the scematic on page 393) behind the pad. the one you have in your hand (in photo) is off another calliper.

Thanks Mezo. Yeah, I've looked through the manuals and thats what made me think i am missing a clip. The 34L lists a part number 11U-25827-10 that seems to sit between the pad and the piston if the fiches are to be believed.

Bit confused now. As for the funny shaped washer, shit, no I don't have that… oh lor, where does that go?

Upon further inspection it is screwed direct in to the housing so yours is correct Andy.

So one of mine has been bodged at some point, (thread has fucked out)

What do you reckon to that third retaining clip then Mezo? Did yours not have it in position?

See the circled item for which one I'm referring to. Yamaha doesn't make it easy with all of these variations do they? I must say I do find it easier with my Hondas (apologies if I've broken a forum rule there).

Still absolutely honking down with rain here, but yeah Andy i think its like Socks said just an anti squeal shim by the looks of things? if it is (when i go have a nosey) you can always just smear copperslip on the back of your pads to stop it squealing (if they do squeal) which i doubt they would anyhow.
