Handlebar movement

So, I was bolting the front and back end up and making sure that everything was buttoned down properly. Everything was looking just peachy, so I popped on the seat and slung my leg over just to see how things felt and did that 'brmmm, brmmm' things that little boys do when they pretend they are on a motorbike.

As I was leaning down on the front end and twisting the throttle, I couldn't help but notice that the handlebars had a bit of movement, as in forward and backward movement. It felt sort of deliberate, like they had independent shock absorption. The movement is definitely within the risers and top yoke and not the bars moving in the risers themselves.

Now, as I have never had this bike together properly, I have no idea as to whether this is deliberate or not. I think I have put everything back in the right order but maybe I have missed something.

So, what is the answer? Are the bars meant to be rock solid or are they meant to have that little bit of movement?

Hi Andy,
the risers are mounted in rubberbushes. In order to reduce vibration from the engine.
So little movement is ok.
But no clackclack-loose... :-)

Cheers Fred, this is good news as it is a good solid feeling and definitely not clack clack clack.

I do thanks mate. Got a workshop manual one blu-tacked on to the workshop wall. I'm crap with wiring but its a new loom and the manual makes it look pretty straight forward. Quite looking forward to it in fact… just wish the temperature would rise a bit, my fingers were blue earlier thanks to the good old English winter!

A new harness, where did you score that from Andy? are they still available then? the harness`s on my 34L`s as rough as a badgers arsehole & i was going to make up some new ones.

I got it through Rinkya on a Japan Yahoo auction. Its the 50T model and looks identical to the 34L from what I can make out?

I take it you've experienced more than one English winter then?

Ermmm, yes about 35 in a row Andy & working on construction sites wrapped up in countless layers looking like Mitchelin man.

The weather was the main reason i emigrated, that & the lame goverments.

Thatchers poll tax was the final straw for me.

I won't hijack my own thread with a Thatcher rant, you get enough of that on Facebook. They say whoever you vote for the government gets in… and I can see what they mean.

Any space for a medium sized one and a well behaved dog down under?
