Trying to decode the differences

I know no-one said a Tenere restoration would be easy but I had no idea I would get quite so confused!

I have just ordered some new cables for my bike and as soon as I opened the packet I could see I had a problem. There is a pull cable and a push cable, that much is clear, but the right-hand kill switch come throttle housing I have on the bike is quite clearly a single cable device only. This part was already with the bike, which I bought as a pile of junk, but it was NOS in a box so assumed it was the right part. See pics below:-




Looking at pics on the net and on this forum, the switch below appears to be what i should be looking for, but can somebody confirm that this is the correct bit? I have found the part available on a few sites but it is listed as for a 43F even though it looks identical to this:



Sorry to trouble you with such basic woes, but I don't want to have put all of this effort in only to be getting the wrong parts.

Also, for the rear end, my bike came with this bracket on it that holds the indicators and sits below the rear light housing, but I can't see it on anyone else's bikes, any idea as to if it is correct or not?



Oh well, at least I can see some progress being made I suppose. Getting there slowly!!!

Yep the pic that you show that "should be right" is indeed the one you want, the one you have is not the correct part (wait for Karl or Dan to chime in here) ive got four of these bikes and the last pic with the funny shaped kill switch is the one your looking for, all mine are broken at that point as that's the bit that hits the dirt first.

The tail bit is all wrong though, the indicators do not mount on the tail light, well at least on all four of my bikes they don't.
Im trying to remember where they do mount from memory?? is it on the luggage rack? or just below with a small bracket i think? ive not got the bikes with me so i cant check.

Hi Andy
Your first statement is correct,wrong part instaled there! You need to get the correct rigth hand gas device.
Now your indicator bracket is original from yamaha to certain countrys.
Norway,sweden,Austria,Denmark been part 34L-83368-00 Stay flasher 3.That means your bike is an import from those countrys.

Amazes me how many parts are identical yet have completely different part numbers. I found a beaut of a caliper but it came from an XZ550. No difference at all from what I can see?

I am restoring a couple of CB1100Rs at the moment too and I have to say the Honda parts inventory is every bit as confusing as Yamaha's??? They don't make it easy do they?

To the untrained eye they may look the same. But Sherlock knows different.

In the Tenere series especially, Yamaha would take a common part and finish it differently, and give it a different part number.
Because the Tenere's had smaller production runs the parts ended up costing more. (Matt versus glossy etc.)
Hopefully, fellow members will point out money saving tips as they discover them.
