Which model year 5th gears do install in my 1vj?

Hi,
I have finally got my 1vj apart, it has quite a few problems, but the one I don't know how best to fix is the fifth gear wear.
What do I replace the worn 5th gear pairs with?
Another 1vj, or 3aj or 3tb gears? Do they all fit without modification (if replaced as pairs); I have the later mainshaft with the sprocket nut.
So much confusing information online.

Jolyon, how’s it going? I’ve got the pair sat in my drawer waiting for the rebuild, if you do the search for the originals, they have been superceded, which should take you to the correct part. Mine are still in packs so I’ll check if the numbers are visible later. I’m out at the pub with the t7 at the mo.

Scrub that, I’d replied on your other thread with the numbers already.
Hopefully still available at Yamaha/ fowlers etc
I also have been on the later shaft for 11 years, much better.

I'm ok but my Tenere isn't! It appears that sometime in its life it inhaled a piece of metal as there's a dent in the piston and the top ring was jammed and the bore was scored. I have a complete 3aj top end for it.

The big end is ok but the small end is worm so I have ordered a new conrod kit. Yet to arrive. Plus I need to work out to remove and reinstall the camchain sprocket to facilitate rod replacement.

The rear rim was cracked so I found another rim and am taking the opportunity to convert the rear brake to disk. That way I will not have to remove the wheel to empty water from the drum after riding through floods.

I'm putting on a 3aj cooler too. Plus everything needs a coat of paint. It's all rather expensive as I have to import everything and I fear my gearbox needs a lot of new gears, not just fifth.

Some good work going on there. Maybe cheaper to go on holiday and bring a load of bits back in a case. I think a full set of gears will be £1000+, no smashed up 3AJs on the market?

Not in The Philippines. My old XT is the only one in the area. People stop me in the street to talk about it! I can get 5th and 4th gear pairs sent to me but 3rd seem to be unavailable. I've seen complete gear clusters on ebay but zooming in on the teeth shows them to be worn too.

It will go back together with new 4th and 5th and I suppose I'll jyst have to not flog it in 3rd. Shame as it's a useful gear on these roads.

If I could find a good 3aj cluster I'd be interested!
