Nasty fuel.

Got a couple of bikes out of winter hibernation this weekend, wondering why I couldn't get them started. This is what came out. All the fuel was fresh as of last autumn and both tanks plastic.

Bike 1. Dark orange. Quite a lot of black sludge in the float bowl as well. Remarkable as I'd cleaned out the carbs only last summer.




Bike 2. What's remarkable is the amount of water. But this was all at the bottom of the tank, so once cleared, the bike started and ran on the same fuel. (Already used all the fresh on the first).

Good example there. Jeez, that’s stinking. I only use super (97/99) in the 1vj, but different places probably have different amounts of ethanol in them so I’ll keep a check. I wonder if the plastic tank made any difference? What fuel was it?

The first was an old second hand Acerbis tank, the second a new Acerbis tank

I couldn't remember what fuel tbh but I generally use e5/99 unless it's not available and I need to fill up.

I've no idea how to clean out an old plastic tank, but it looks like the petrol did the job over the winter.
