Hi all,
I have an 84 600Z project in its final stages but having issues with the indicators. I have fitted the indicators and they work fine until I attach the tacho then both LH and RH flash at the same time. So I attached my spare tacho and it has the same issue. Take the bulb out of the turn signal indicator in the tacho and the indicators work normally.
Looking at the wiring diagram everything appears to be wired correctly. But I can't see how the LH RH indicators could ever work independently if the dark green and chocolate are joined together across the turn signal indicator bulb in the tacho...this is joining the LH and RH positives together hence why LH and RH are flashing together. I must be missing something and/or doing something wrong but have stared at the diagram and the wiring for hours now and it's not coming to me.
Any tips highly appreciated.
Cheers
Mark

Re: Indicator wiring issue
Hi Mark
The control bulb in the tacho only has 2W or so, and therefore restricts the current to be able to run through the bulbs of the other side. It is enough for the control bulb to light, but the 20W flasher bulbs will only do so very very dim.
That is until you fit LED blinkers :-). As they light up with considerably less current ...
This can be fixed by changing the wiring by fitting some extra diodes.
Sorry for German pics but here we go, generic circuit drawing for an old SR500:

This is how I did it:

Masse = Earth
DZM = Drehzahlmesser = Tacho

Re: Indicator wiring issue
I'm sorry...I should have mentioned the LED bulbs and relay but didn't think it would make a difference in this case...lesson learnt. All makes sense now.
I think I'll look for a standard flasher and go back to standard bulbs to get it licensed.
Cheers Andy and Mezo....absolute legends. I can sleep a bit better tonight.
