Tenere 1VJ breather questions

Post by cadno »

Getting close now. I have a few breather questions:
Where does the breather line go to that comes out of the top of the oil tank?
I'm guessing to the crankcase breather on the left hand side below the cam chain tensioner? The hose I have doesn't actually get that far, so I'll have to source one if that's where it goes.
I have the vacuum take off on the left side of the intake rubbers, is this correct?
What attaches to this and where does it go?
Or have I got it all wrong :bigeek:

Yeah, you are right on that one mate.

For the other question, there are two "breather" hoses.

One goes from the oil tank to the crankcase or - depending on the model - to the cylinder head and is more of an oil overflow so the oil tank does not get pressurized. Thats a small diameter rubber hose like a fuel hose.

The bigger one (half inch or so) is the crankcase breather and ends in the airbox, right hand side if I remember right.

You can find all the exploded views here:

thanks guys.
I already have the Yamaha parts diagrams but my issue is they don't really show where they go to. The airbox diagram shows two water vents but no breather tubes. My airbox has two tubes on the underside, but the diameter is much bigger than the breather hose inner diameter.
Photo would be helpful.
On the fuel pump inlet and outlet are thankfully shown, I've connected the rear facing spigot to the vacuum on the inlet manifold. BUT there's a very small inlet/outlet spigot between the in/out spigots for fuel. It has a short length of hose on it. Any ideas on where this should end up?

Hi
the Tenere airbox has three connectors for that crankcase breather size, one on the left hand side and two on the right hand side.
There is a short vent on opposite sides, and the leftover connector is for that 12mm hose as explained before.

I only found a picture where part of it is shown, left side, click for bigger pic:

For the fuel pump: most people I know get rid of it. Just connect fuel taps to the carb inlet and plug that vacuum connection of the left intake and you are good. The fuel pump can caus all kind of troubles, especially when switching to reserve it can draw air and render the rest of the fuel useless - it will not get to the carb any more when there is an airlock. You only loose about 0,5 litre of fuel by getting rid of the pump.

If you still have questions it would be extremely helpful to post some pictures of the problem area. Maybe you have modified parts or parts from a different model on that bike.
