Got a heap more power with the carb retrofit and a heap more growling from the gearbox bearings.
Anyone guide me on necessary parts for an overhaul.

Open the block and you shall know.
Maybe its not the bearings but the gears.

Yes, a 1987 Tenere.
About 74.000 km on the gearbox. I did notice the different sound when riding dunes.
Fifth gear.

Re: Gearbox bearings
Is that your fith gear?
I had to replace the fith gear on my 3AJ with 98000 kilometres that looked very much the same. From all the similar issues ive seen, it seems to be a common issue with the Tenere. All my other internals were pristine.

If it doesn't involve scotch, bikes or progressive metal then you're doing something wrong.

Re: Gearbox bearings
I've just striped a seized 1VJ motor where the area underneath the engine number was raised and had cracked the casing. When I split the cases the fifth gear was in six equal sized pieces and had totally destroyed the inside of the gearbox and right hand case.

Re: Gearbox bearings
Yes it's a second generation Tenere. Kick start and electric, they came out in 1985. I wouldn't know the mileage as it came without clocks.
But I've never seen a gearbox and case quite so well destroyed
I hope it happened at low speed, but more than likely in 5th
