Hello,
One of the oil filter housing cover bolts has stripped on my 1VJ. Yes the one that gets stripped easily as unlike the others the female thread is in the clutch cover in front of an oilway.
So does anyone have a clutch cover suitable they would be willing to sell and post to France?
Ideally a 3TB as I hear these are much stronger, and ideally in pristine black condition. But anything considered as long as not cracked or chipped and all threads in good condition and has the recesses and cable outer guides etc for the decompressor unit.
Thanks!
Dan

I dont think the 3TB motor came in black, early 3AJ did, but you would have to blank off the external oil feed to the gearbox.

Good point! I'd prioritise condition over colour!
Hadn't realised oil feeders would be an issue: I've been reading around and I understood they were all pretty much the same, even non kickstart versions can be used as there is just a plastic bung...so I thought...until looking online at pictures and I noticed some had the housing and cable guides for the decomp lever and some didn't.
Ok. revision to the ad: I want a clutch cover to fit a 1VJ with minimal faff!

4PT wont have the hole for the kickstarter or auto decompressor, 3TB will, as far as I know the 3TB is pretty much the same as the 3AJ apart from the center cover for the clutch section is removable on the 3AJ but is part of the casting on the 3TB.

Thanks for taking the time. I'm keen to avoid the E place if I can!
and hopefully do a deal with someone from here: I've had quite a bit of help here.
One of your links has the kickstart bung but not the recesses for the decomp fititng just below it: It's a minefield!
I'm in no rush so will keep an eye out for the right one.

I've had success with drilling out that thread and tapping in new threads to add an insert and repair that spot you're talking about. The only oil passage you block is the oil return for filter changes. That passage is typically blocked by the bolt that screws in and is only useful once you remove that bolt when you are changing your oil filter. The worst thing that happens with the repair is that you spill out a little more oil than usual when you open the filter cover.Dan wrote: Sun Feb 25, 2018 6:29 pm Hello,

Also i think the 1VJ has an odd bracket that mounts the starter motor to the case cover instead of the center cases on the 3TB. Better to check that one out.

Good point on the starter motor. The bike is a few thousand miles away from me (sniff) as I'm in Mali.
Typical: I've got some spare time to sort stuff like this out, but can't look at the bike to check.
Tapping threads is beyond my experience for now, but yes I was going to have a try fixing the old one, but don't necessarily want to have the cover off a long time whilst I learn how to tap!
