model/year ID

Post by crossflow »

I have to order some gaskets for the rebuild of my engine and see that spares are often identified as 3YF1, 3YF2 etc. Is this number suffix simply the production year and if so how do I find out when my engine was made? Were there any changes to the engine over the early nineties run?
This is maybe complicated by the fact that I am intending to use my new bottom end cases which are from an MZ Skorpion (4NN) These apparently ran from 1994 to 2004.
also, does anyone have a suggestion for the grey paint on the engine... just want to tidy up the top end.
Thanks,
Rich

Gaskets sets should fit all years with the 5 valve head, the only differences in the engine are a taller 1st gear & a blanking plate on the later 4MY model which has an electronic tacho (blanking plate instead of tacho drive unit).

That's good to know. I can get on with it now.
I saw that, in my attempt to make sure that I wasn't asking a stupid question but I still don't really know what year my bike is. It probably doesn't make any difference as far as engine spares are concerned anyway. Also, it was imported at some point according to the V5 so I couldn't assume it was the UK model.

Thanks to you both for your input,

Rich
