Complete clutch slip

Hi All, any advice about a clutch on my bike that had been idle for 10 years? I thought I was ready for MOT, all rebuilt. Engine not stripped but wheels, forks, brakes, gummy tank, all sorts of work. But no drive at all as I release the clutch.
The cable is slack and the arm in the'home' position when the lever is released. Also the springs seem to provide an expected resistance when I pull the lever. So I drop into 1st and release the clutch and a small driving force but not enough to pull away. Then nothing at all in terms of drive. Can the friction material have been destroyed by age? Am I about to buy new plates or can they be cleaned? Difficult to imagine adjustment needed - I did replace the cable but otherwise it had been left as it was in a working condition. Any ideas, Folks? Cheers

Just an update a chap at work suggested oil contamination and I could try burning it off the friction plates really quick (quick to avoid warping them). I guess that's one for if you're in the middle of nowhere without any other option. Guess I'll buy some plates. Any recommendations anyone?

Your using the right oil yeah?

Now yes. JMC mineral motorcycle oil, boasts that good for wet clutch performance. Old oil - can't guarantee. Didn't know the previous owner but it ran ok with his oil in for a Summer for me.

Sounds like the clutch friction plates have died.....

Thanks Phil you've got me to the stage where I can laugh at it and now buy some plates and a gasket. More ££ hope it's a good Summer!!
