Brake caliper float

Hi All,

I've been slowly getting my '86 1VJ ready for use after giving it a 10 year rest in the garage and I have removed the brake caliper and subsequently the piston for re-sealing.

The caliper is fixed to the bracket (that bolts to the fork leg) with a bolt and a pin. I guess you would pivot the caliper to change pads by removing the bolt and swinging the caliper round on the pin.

My instinct tells me that the caliper should come away from the bracket ie the pin should slide out of the casting as easily as it should allow the caliper to float.

But either I'm wrong (usually am!) or the pin is seized solid in the casting. Before I do any heavy duty pulling, pressing, or hammering on this casting I'd love to know if anyone has had this problem. I'd really love it if anyone has any advice, and I'd breathe a sigh of relief if it's supposed to be stuck in there! I'd be surprised but it won't be the first time!

I am not with my Tenere in the moment, but is the bracket still on the fork leg? It is easier to get some force on the caliper when the bracket is bolted on.
Were you able to remove the single bolt yet?

So if the bracket is on the fork leg and the pin is removed, you could do some knocking with a plastic or wooden hammer to get things moving, in axle direction and then up.

Cheers Andy. Just managed it. Tried to hammer tried to press with a vice. Had it soaked in diesel. Even warmed it up in oil in a slow cooker (sorry love!). Finally drilled the end of the blind hole and tapped it M6 and screwed in a grease nipple. Took a bear hug on the grease gun, mind. A sweet cracking noise and it's apart!
