Headlight for different countries

Post by qwertylolman »

hi,

got new toy
so i wonder, if there is a difference between headlight (i mean optics) between teneres for different countries? i know about differences in wiring.
and second question is: how to find out for which country's market this motorcycle was produced?

Yes there is a difference (i made the mistake) :banghead:

A headlight built for use in that country has its "throw" designed in to its optics (the glass lens) to throw the light towards the footpath, not in to the face of approaching vehicle.

How are your headlights set-up right now? identical lights (wired together as a twin) or one driving light & second high beam? (wired individually)

I see h1 stamp on one light and h4 on other (this one also have small bulb). But seems like both installed bulbs are h4

e.g.:
Germany, Belgium, Sweden, France: H4, H1 60W/55W, 55W
England, Italy...: Bilux 35/35W, 35/35W

easy change: some TDR 125 have H4/H4
which bulb is allowed is written on the glas

1. buy set of h4 bulbs.
2. disconnect 'light' and leave headlight from h1 light
3. replace bulbs
4. ...
5. profit

i've got the same bulb holders on both lights. it's interesting, because I have another XTZ750 headlight I wanted to mount to XTZ660. This set also has h1/h4 stamps, but h1 bulb holder has lever to secure bulb.

p.s. oh shi~, XTZ750's headlight is so awesome! :) i simply changed bulbs to Osram Night Breaker.

Ok, I have 3AJ 600 Tenere, but simalar headlight.
Mine was a German import that had low beam in the left side whit a H4 bulb and high beam in the right side whit a H1 bulb. Now the lens of the low beam was shabby so I opted for some new lights, and as ither low or high beam was on, never both same time I tought I wanted both on same time. I did some search and seem there is some diffrent headlights awable. The 3AJ has 4 diffrent conections/headligts for right side traffic + x for left side traffic. One single scuare H4, the setup mine had + setup whit 35/35W bulbs that ither run both at same time or just high beam at same time. Anyway, I looked into Yamaha FZR600/1000 headlights, the early late 80´s modells and looks very same, so did a risk and buoght a set of 1989 FZR600 headlights from USA, glass where marked Halogen. I now have convnted them into the 3AJ carrier, a bit tricky if you dont want the plastic holders broken, but you can made it. The lights came whit H4 bulbs in them (one 60/55w other 100/80w!), but the back of the lens had stamped 35/35w. They are designed for a bulb called HS1, and I will first try them what thouse bulbs to see how mutch light they give (wired whit a relay, not thro the switch as oem). H4 bulbs fit, but the fastner is slightly slimmer so you can rotate the H4 bulb a bit that effect the light pattern. Talking of light pattern these USA FZR headlights work for both left as right side traffic, the light pattern is flat like a fog light, like many modern bikes actually.
As the 3AJ has not as high generator output, I think I can not run normal H4 if I think I want more light, but perhaps a HID kit?

My car came with a HID kit fitted, the lights were bright but they had no beam pattern & the light went everywhere not concentrated where I want it :foot_tap: so I've reverted back to H4 bulbs.

Headlights are designed so the bulb filament is in exactly the right spot to produce the correct beam pattern, the kit fitted to my car had long bulbs, the filament was in the wrong place, so no pattern.

If you do change to HID make sure the bulbs are designed for use in a standard headlight or buy specific HID light units.
