The purple sealant looks like Loctite 515 master gasket. 515 is one the best things you can use reassembling engines . If any ends up inside, it dissolves on contact with oil.

Another tip. In fitting new fork seals. Some 515 around the outside of the seal. An the seal will slip into the fork with your fingers and no need to use force.

I have FINALLY had confirmation that the Doohickey parcel is now in the UK, I was starting to get a bit concerned. I just need to pay the customs fees now

I've not really made much progress lately as the ZX9 has been playing up so she has been getting my attention. I have stripped the front caliper and after a clean up I was pleasantly surprised that the pistons and caliper were in pretty good nick. I have now got a set of braided lines, new clutch kit and springs and a clutch cable to fit. Oh yeah and the Doohickey to do too. Plus I have managed to break the choke cable plastic end which were old and brittle. Apparently they can be hard to get hold of but it appears you can fit a plunger type choke to the carb from a KLX250 and do away with the cable, this option just makes it slightly more awkward to get to.

I think I want to replace the leccy connectors too as they have mostly seen better days. I will change the fork oil and then maybe put her back together and try to get some use out of her then.

EDIT: Some interesting reading & links HERE,,,and good advice where they say using dielectric grease is as good as modern connectors with rubber seals.

Autostar on ebay carry most of the connectors.

Kawasaki might still do a connector kit, is it much different to the modern KLR

Mezo and Rick, thanks for the info. I have finally received my Doohickey bits from america so I have plenty to keep me busy. I'll try and get some photo's of the work as I go along.

I had heard that dielectric grease was good so I think that will do for me as I don't expect to be traversing the globe on the old girl (Yet ).
