schrader valves for front forks

Hello xt-land; I've ordered new progressive springs for my front forks and looking at the air valves, they should be replaced also. To equalize air pressure to both tubes , could you use one valve connecting to both forks? and does anybody know the current size of the Schrader valves currently installed? 1989 43f xt 600. thanks Mike

They use a std. tire valve insert. About 19mm long.

Yes, but why complicate your life??

BTW only use a hand pump. Max pressure 10psi. (0.75 bar)

Agree on that, from memory they used to link them on the old crossers back in the day.

ok...maybe over-thinking the air pressure per tube thing, I'll just replace the inserts with a bicycle tube or car tire Schrader valve. I'll figure it out once I start the replacement of the fork springs...But I do like the Idea of one air valve, giving even air pressure to both fork tubes...Mike

well much to do about nothing I guess, The new progressive springs I received in the mail states ( Air Pressure: After installing the new springs we recommend Zero air pressure.) Works for me. Thanks Mike

I tried messing around a bit with air pressure after installing progressive fork springs. Eventually came to the conclusion that zero pressure suited them best (manual said nothing about pressure suggestions). Even with a few hg of pressure they became too stiff. The valves then worked fine for releasing pressure from the forks rather than filling.

These new Progressive springs are definitely a good upgrade. They are longer and made of thicker steel. they fit perfectly and no spacer was needed due to the extra length of the spring. Mike

I am curious about your progressive springs, are they Progressive Brand or just progressive wound? A name and part number would be nice to have.

Hey Steve , The name was Progressive....part no 11-1141 and fits 84 - 89 xt 600 and priced around 90 bucks. regards mike

Just a quick note on part numbers, the 1990+ XT600e uses Progressive spring part number 11-1506.
