thank's for the replies, to be honest this is my first four stroke bike and the newest, all previous have been from the late 70s
and early 80s, i like the old bikes.

Some facts about the TT in Australia.

In their wisdom, Yamaha Australia and their dealers insisted that the TT be sold with road registerable compliance.
To comply, the tail and brake lights had to operate with the engine stopped. This meant that a battery was needed.
That's why the TT battery hangs off the rear frame like an afterthought ( that's because it was).

The headlight has it's own generator coil on the stator, the CDI another seperate one (this means you can strip off all the lights and run it as a pure motocross).
There is a third coil for the battery,stop,tail lights. The USA TT's don't have this stuff.
thank's actionman, it's good finding out this stuff isn't it, well stupid me got bored again and i thought i'd see what the headlight looked like lit up
so i put it on the battery and nothing! oops i put the bulb in the wrong slot :innocent: so now it works on the battery, will see if it works when i start it tomorrow.

Compare the stator & exciter/trigger coil resistance values & the ignition advance curve in the manual for both bikes, if they're in the same ball park you should be ok :thumb:

I just checked the resistance values and the ignition curves between the xt and tt cdi's in the workshop manuals and there's stuff all difference, slight difference in the
resistance part but that's it the ignition curve is identical, bit of a relief, not going to cook it or something.

Did the paint get harder now after several heat cycles?

yes it did actually, but the dam thing is all chipped up now! unless i can touch it up?
just the cables rubbing it took the paint off.

how are the xt's coming along?

Well i had a hell of a good day, tested the headlight this morning and it works!, hi and low.

then put a few psi in the front forks (a bit soft) tested it, perfect, put fuel in and headed to friends place.
keep in mind cloudy all day.

friends 97rmx250. we then headed to the local bush, bike ran great chugs it's way through anything.
need a better camera i think.
not game enough yet to put it through water yet.

we then headed down the dirt roads in the area and still no traction dam shame :biggrin:
mind you friend was ahead of me and roosted me with a rock right in the chest!
then of course it starts to rain, it's like being sand blasted all the time, but the hand guards work very well.
we stopped at a t junction and i noticed this!

that's all the electrics working now yay, i like it when things fix them selves.
and most importantly i beat the rmx at all drag races. smile: i think i'm in love.

The signals must have just had a connection or ground that wasn't quite making contact and with use she finally did. The traction issue is probably from the tires themselves, A different rear may work better.

Nice build, TT looks a bit bland in the colour scheme, is it me or does in need some colour :bigeek:

Ha ha ha i was being sarcastic about the traction thing (goes that well) although i could do with a better tyre when i get in to the deeper mud, once i'm comfortable with the bike.

well well looks like i can not trust after market gaskets. :bat:
first oil change i'll swap them out and replace the clutch which is slipping when you gas it.

You guys have a brand of clutch that you use? ebc etc.

And i think i'll get another tyre :blush:

Too be honest it wasn't that bad when i started using the bike I've only put 149km on it so far.
i'm thinking of getting irc m5b knobby tyre, book says 140/80 18, can you get wider? 150? it has good reviews, any other suggestions?

depends what you are around a lot, keep in mind once the new plastics are on it'll get the stickers on too. like this.


Just so used to the golden rims of the Teneres, but it does look a lot better with some stickers :nordie:
