I saw your hint somewhere else (...) and investigated and went shopping immediatly.
The parts allready have arrived. I will swap out the front sprocket on the Tenere in a few days.

Now this might be a dumbass question, but is a compression test do-able with the auto decomp hooked up or should it be removed prior to doing the test?

My manual gives a compression figure & says do a compression test in the normal way, hold the throttle open & spin the engine over. But I suspect whoever wrote the manual forgot about the "AUTO" de-comp, the XTZ660 manual is wrong in other areas.
I think you need to lock the de-comp mechanism some how before you test, depends on how the auto de-comp works. If I removed mine I think I would have to seal the end of the cam as well to keep oil pressure
