XTZ660 parts fit XT600e?

Hi

New guy here - I have just bought a 1992 XT600E and then got my hands on a load of 1997 XTZ660 parts inc front forks, rear shock, brake calipers, fuel tank, seat etc

Any idea what would fit on simply (if anything) ?

Hi Scutty &

The calipers might fit, the 660 forks are 43mm the 600 are 41mm so you'd need 660 yokes to fit them & the rear spring is alot stronger/stiffer on the 660 so unless you do a lot of this

you would want to change the 660s shock spring rate.
No idea about the seat or tank

Thanks for the response. I have yokes for the forks so the might be a go. Also, I'm 6'3" and 19st so maybe the rear shock would be ideal!
God knows what else is in the box of stuff, its quite a pile of parts.

Rick - do you think just the spring or the whole shock unit? The shock, I believe is fully adjustable vs the XT's preload only from what I understand?

I might have to wait until I get the XT into the garage and stripped out the rear shock before I can tell - I have googled a lot but not much regarding this swap-over.

The other thing is I might have an 18" rear wheel coming and wanted to know if it can replace the 17" currently on the XT?

Not sure if you would call the XTZ shock fully adjustable. It has preload and rebound control, is there much else to more modern shocks

Fully adjustable shocks have preload, rebound & COMPRESSION adjustment. The XTZ shock only has preload & rebound as Teneroma says.

Unfortunately fitting a stronger spring can mean you want less compression damping, I'd use the XTZ shock if you can, probably better set up for the spring rate.

Great, thanks for the info. I will have to document my work once I get started. It'll be interesting to see if I can get the tank and brakes to fit.

The Tenere tank is a few inches longer so you'll be sat back further in a less aggresive riding position, be nice if you could swap between the 2

Not sure about the 18" rear wheel? you may find your limited on tire choice (especially knobbies).
