Little end bearing

Post by Butcherbird »

Hi, Just discovered I have a cream-crackered little end bearing and have looked through a couple of manuals I downloaded but nothing much is mentioned about them.
Is it possible to get a bush fitted or do I need a new conrod?
There is a crank and rod currently on ebay for £50, says it came from a 3AJ, would that fit a 34L?

There has been plenty of discussion about the con rods. Basically there are 3 types (34K-3AJ-3TB)and you must match the number stamped into the rod.

None of the bikes use a little end bush, but the rod end is flash coated with copper. I have been meaning to get my local electroplater to re-plate some old ones.
You might want to try this.

Just had a look and mine doesn't seem to have anything stamped into the con rod but it has '5Y1 E' on the side of the rod in raised lettering as part of the casting.

That's what your looking for,I got lucky and found a new old stock rod and bearing on ebay for about 20 odd quid, result, and rebuilt my crank.
I think you will probably lucky to find another crank that's got a rod much better than what you've already got maybe.

Hmmmmm....5Y1 is the code for the XT550. It will still interchange with '83 600cc motor.

If its 3AJ oil pump it will have stamped on one side 5Y1 & importantly 3AJ on the other, this was from a 3TB from memory?
