just stickers........... or has it been tweaked by a suspension guru

I thought of your post yesterday when I got my rebuilt forks back from Kiwi Suspension Solutions (KSS) with stickers on them. KSS are recognised experts and the forks are transformed, just fantastic.

But how would anyone know, by looking at the forks, that I had spent a bundle on making them good?

Yours may well have been tweaked by a suspension guru - I guess you have to give them to a guru to see if he recognises any engineering work that's been done.

XR650 front end
Is this frontend from XR650R or XR650L ?

I bought from XR650L, it fits Plug&Play into XLV frame mounts. Bearings are ideally the same in XR and XLV.
I've mounted new seals, fill new oil and this suspension works great !
So you made good decision bouying this frontend :-)

There is one more thing to do - You should mount bigger brake disc. I Have brake disc (diameter 320mm) and front rim from KTM LC4 which fits ideally for 17mm front axle:

You would have to do similar to what i did on my DR project, Brembo make caliper extension brackets to do the 320 conversion but whether they make one for your forks?

got the swing arm bolt out :flogging:

Image

the correct tools for the job

Image

i heated the rear of the engine case, screwed the nut on until it touched the frame then wound it back out so there was a 2mm gap to the frame
put the socket on the nut and used my modified air chisel on the socket to start pushing the bolt out and just wound the nut back as it got closer to the frame
millimeter by millimeter it started to move, the centre bush was the problem

Image

this bolt in the linkage is also seized not a sign of grease in there

Image

i'm impressed with the engine enamel it didn't blister or flake off with the heat from the torch
