Mrs Nop's new Tenere needs some bits...

Post by nop »

So in preparation of a bit of fun I have acquired Mrs Nop a Tenere!

Image

I think it is a 1992 3YF, the single headlight model. The PO has done the first stuff, braided hoses, crash bars, stainless 'zorst and a pannier rack. The only problem is there is damage to the front fairing on the left side. After a lot of searching and calling every major bike breaker in the UK I have come to the conclusion that replacements are as rare as rockinghorseshit.

So my questions, What are my fairing options?

Did anyone ever make an aftermarket fairing?
Will a later 'twin headlamp' fairing fit on instead (obviously after switching to a twin headlamp bracket etc)?
Does anyone have any front fairing parts for a single headlamp model XTZ660 they want to sell?
Could I take most of the front fairing off and use something else without it looking too pikey?

The main problem is, while Mrs Nop really likes her new Tenere, it somewhat dwarfs my XT600. :bag:

You can fit the twin headlamp fairing, but you need to change a lot of stuff, including the petrol tank...& the parts are even harder to find than the single headlamp jobbie... parts are always coming up for the 3YF ... keep your eyes on ebay, can you get it plastic welded for now?

p.s. congrats Mrs Nop... nice bike

Nice bike that Paul, your missus looks made up. I'm thinking about getting one of those later this year to give my XT (and particularly its new tyres) a break. Reading Vanders ride reports on here is inspiring stuff and these models are cheap and solid. I have a French ride report from when they came out - the journos basically checked the oil and changed the tyres, then rode it to Dakar. No dramas at all (until a 130kmh off in the sand...) and they rated it highly.

Like Geoff says, bits come up on eBay from time to time. Check French and Italian eBay too when you search, as quite a few of these were sold on the continent.

Yes it was from south Wales.

I am sure your new bike is far better than the piece of shit we bought and I am sure you will have far more fun on it than Mrs Nop and I touring around Europe.

Also, xtz660 from 1991?
