3AJ Tenere - strange engine noise - any ideas?

Hi all

I'm currently in La Paz, Bolivia and been doing a major service on
my Yamaha Tenere 3AJ 1990. I started the bike to warm the oil
up before draining it and noticed for the first time a strange noise
that appears to be coming from the barrel. It sounds like a cross

I couldn't get a fork seal that was 41 x 53 x 10.5. So, the seal shop ground down a 41 x 54 x 11 seal, but this leaked badly when fitted. I then noticed that the one that had been removed had 41 x 54 x 11 stamped on it. Not sure if this is an original Yamaha part, or something a ...
