Smokin'...............

Hi, my XT600e is doing two thing that are getting to me...............
The idle speed is slow to drop after giving the engine a rev, and as the engine gets warmer, the idle speed goes up......So I can happily set a speed of 1500rpm, and then as the engine gets warmer still it'll go up to over 2000rpm

If I get it really hot and set 1500rpm, it'll refuse to idle or stall when the engine is a bit cooler
Whilst messing around in the yard trying to set an idle speed, I notice intermittent wafts of smoke from god knows where under the tank

There are no oil leaks, so I'm wondering if theres some kind of breather in there, maybe blocked or summat...........
The bike is a 2003 XT600e but is mint and only has 3k miles, although a previous owner deid hack his way into the carb to fit a dynojet kit and K&N filter.....
As my Blade is still totally in bits, it would be really nice if the XT were to behave for a while.........
Do we have a

in the house....?

Yep theres a dangly pipe that floats around with a knob on the end of it (breather filter) some people tuck it up under the tank, others leave if flspping around, check that.

Oi

..the scouser quickly lets go of said pipe and tries to look cool............
Thanks for that, I'll have a decko under there when I raise the willingness to tear apart my one remaining bike..................
Maybe the small matter of the weird idle will be resolved when I put an MX silencer on it, a dynojet kit and a carb service......
The idle problem wasn't adjustment of the cables, by the way, I made sure they were set perfect............
Only 4 wee3ks to the TT now, and the Blade is still far from ready, although at least it looks like a bike now.............

The tick over problem sounds either like your mixture screw needs adjusting or the idle jet is partially blocked. 3k miles on a 9 year old bike usually mean stale petrol & varnish.
Wafts of smoke could be the engine getting too hot caused by a lean mixture.

Thanks for that :) Carb has to come out again as it needs a new float bowl gasket, the connecting pipe between the two carb bodies is rotten, and I guess I'll fit the dynojet kit ready for the new can.......The fuel is fine as I've done a couple of tanks now, and used super-plus petrol. I'll re-check that jet, there was lots of crap in there, the main jet had a piece of straw blocking it.......

Check the filter behind the float needle valve for crap as well whilst its apart.

Good suggestion,

. I actually saw that when trawling through other threads

I'll get all the bits ordered and then make a proper job of the carb. I'm not happy that some-one with no clue has been poking about in there........
Wednesday night gone was the local bike night, the sun was out, and my road was full of bikes firing past, and theres me with two in bits, it's enough to make you
