Well I may be wrong, but am I imagining it or not that the XT6002KF doesnt seem as well represented on here?

Or as usual... Am I missing summat?

I have just bought a 1985 2KF for a re-build, I wont manage anything like the quality you guys seem to turn out on a regular basis, just want to bring the tired old girl back to life, use it for bit then move on... providing the bike doesnt make me want to keep her...

Or as we say in Engrish "The Best" is the 2KF (according to Ingo) on his site.

The 2KF is basically the same bike but without the big tank, the Tenere`s were designed for balls out long distance across the outback & deserts where you need a long range gas tank.
The UK has a petrol station on every street corner so there's not much point in having a giant tank, unless like many of the lads you just love looking at big gas tanks. I think this was the reason the Tenere was such a hit in Australia with its long distances between filling stations.
Your new moped is suited to where you live & its intended purpose, 13ltr tank is sufficient for the UK & its only 13kg where imagine running around UK with 30kg (30ltrs) in between your legs.

Your best friend for these bikes and parts is Ebay, but it's a bit like fishing. You have to be patient and wait for the right parts to come to you.
The 2KF was sold in the USA, so the boats.net site will give you access to a large range of genuine new parts at very reasonable prices.
A lot cheaper than your local stealership.
If you are really stuck for a particular part, ask here, someone is sure to have a spare.

Parts are quite hard to find for the 2kf been buying the odd parts here and there ebay Germany has parts
now and again just search for 2kf it sorts it out from the rest of the XT600 stuff

Aaah thats looking sweet Bopster... mine looks very sad right now, getting to the lowest part of a rest, cant get some Allen bolts out, others have broken off. almost all the bits I have to replace are either unavailable or quite pricey. I have the front forks to take off, the engine to remove along with the swing-arm... the latter looks a bit of a trial! But once I get the frame blasted & painted I'll be on the up-curve. Clocks are knackered, rear shock looks shot but isnt leaking & still seems to damp the re-bound just fine. I 'll be changing the needle bearings, head bearings, rear fender assembly & loads of other smaller bits in the suspension, electrics etc... at least the loom is good lol!

Any piccies to go with the strip Keith?

I picked up the upper rear fender from ebay germany a month ago and side panels from ebay UK and a new headlight cowl
again from ebay UK so don't need to much but wont strip the bike until I've finished my Tenere 1vj as I said before the
plactics for XT600 seem to be the hardest parts to find in good condition, still after the inner rear mudguard, forks are dead
easy and cheap I picked up a pair for 99p + post did feel a bit guilty, but that's the nature of ebay, anything for the XT500
commands a higher price! It's alway's worth trying Yamaha dealers as some stuff is still available.

Yea guys I found the new ignition switches around £32 :-)
My plastics are all there luckily, and undamaged except for the rear fender bits where it looks like the bike has been looped once or twice... checked the frame & I cant see anything twisted or untoward. It's what these bikes do after all... Jeez I found it easy to loop an XL185 Honda I had way back....!

I'll take some 1200 grit wet & dry to the plastics & finish off with some Scotch-brite, see what the final look is & add a little paint if needed.

I keep forgetting to take pics... I get so involved, but I'll get some done. Just need the engine out now & the swing arm which makes some nasty crunching noises when I try to rotate the main pivot shaft.... no sign of any grease ever having been applied to the top 2 grease nipples so my needle rollers are probably well past their service life....

Tonight & tomorrow I'll do my "find - fix - replace" list & start searching hard... next I'm going to have all the steel footpegs, stand etc shot-blasted & set about getting some stuff looking ready to re-fit.
