Good morning Xt lovers. Got a new set of renthal “vintage high” to go on the 1VJ. One problem, they’re silver. So…. Are there any don’ts or any top tips for painting these black? Not sure what they’ve used in the factory.
Anything works well or something to steer clear of? At the mo, this afternoon I’ll be going with a normal primer and enamel gloss black, unless some wise thoughts come my way. Cheers guys.
P. S. Sun is finally starting to show in uk so have a salt free weekend all. Mines overdue MOT so can’t enjoy her yet

If they are a chrome finish i’d roughen them up with a little 80 grit sandpaper to help the primer stick. Other than that i don’t see any problem!

Thanks Scottie.

They were a really hard silver finish, so Ive now roughed them up and put etch primer on them first. Used gloss black. Not sure whether to laquer them. Probably not. We’ll see how long they last in Welsh weather.

I've powder coated both original steel and Renthal type alloy bars in the past, works really well, remember to get the powder coater to mask the throttle tube area!

Cheers cadno.

If they scratch I will shotblast and powder coat. Can’t wait to test them out.
